A loss of hearing is something that affects millions of people, and for many is something that could have been prevented. Exposure to environmental causes of hearing loss can be prevented with the use of earplugs or by simply avoiding long term exposure to excessively loud noises. Excessively loud noises are noises such as loud machinery, buzz saws, lawnmowers, loud music, headphones, ect. Conductive, sensorineural or mixed hearing loss are the three major types of hearing loss that is experienced and although some hearing loss can be permanent there are some hearing loss that can be helped with surgery or a digital hearing aid to correct hearing loss.
Hearing loss in early childhood can cause language problems and lack of social development. Detecting a hearing loss as soon as possible in young children is critical so that they don’t have delays in their speech.
