Hearing loss can be permanent and in some situations be reversable or temporary. Long term exposure to noises such as loud music, noises at work, lawnmowers, or loud traffic can adversely affect hearing. Hearing loss can also be caused by age which can occur slowly as you grow older. Hearing loss caused by aging is permanent and can be mild or severe.
Some other causes of hearing loss can be an object in the ear, earwax buildup, infection of the ear, or a ruptured eardrum. You may also experience vertigo which is the feeling that your surroundings are moving. There are some ways to prevent hearing loss. Hearing loss can be prevented by avoiding things such as loud noises. You can avoid exposure to noise for long periods of time by using earplugs. Conductive, mixed hearing loss and sensorineural are all three types of hearing loss.
Conductive hearing loss is usually caused by problems to the outer or middle ear. Sensorineural hearing loss occurs from problems with the cochlea and damage to the hair cells. Mixed hearing loss is a combination of damage to the outer, middle and inner ear. Unilateral hearing loss is normal hearing in one ear but not the other. These are some of the causes and types of hearing loss that can occur and in some cases can be helped with the use of ear hearing aids. Although a hearing aid cannot correct any type of hearing loss it can help to amplify sound.
