Alcoholics Are Just Like Non-Drinkers?

Alcoholics are people who enjoy having happy feelings, good friends, and a lifestyle hobby that is accepted by strangers instantly in all parts of the country. The goals of those who are drinking are often no different than the goals of non-drinkers; everybody likes having friends, good feelings, and popular hobbies that allow for entertainment and social interactions.

So, what makes the alcoholic such a terrible person? Nothing. The use of alcohol has been promoted as socially acceptable by media, military, schools, churches, and the government until very recently in our past. Some drinkers started drinking as a chosen part of their lifestyle while drinking was a socially acceptable thing to do.

When friends and family understand why a drinker is drinking, it is often easier to determine how to help your alcoholic to stop drinking. If your alcoholic is happy with a bottle, a social setting, and friends they are not going to listen to any unhappy options for long.

Many popular names in outpatient alcohol treatment do not have high long-term success rates because they tell the alcoholic to feel ‘guilty’ about what they are doing and that they must change to please God, family, or friends. Programs that help alcoholics to change to benefit only themselves are often much better options.
